If you can’t make it in GHANA, you can’t make it ANYWHERE!

Is Ghana Really the Land of Dreams?
I just finished watching the latest episode of Konnected Minds, and honestly? My brain is still buzzing. Derrick sat down with Justice Offei Jr., and they tackled a topic that usually triggers a heated debate at every Sunday brunch in Accra: Can you actually make it here, or is the grass really greener abroad?
There’s a bold claim right in the title: "If you can’t make it in Ghana, you can’t make it anywhere!" At first, I rolled my eyes. We all know the struggles—the exchange rate, the red tape, the light that likes to flicker at the worst times. But by the end of the video, I was looking at our streets differently.
The Gap is Your Opportunity
Justice made a point that really stuck with me. In more developed countries, everything is "fixed." The systems are tight, the competition is massive, and most problems already have a solution. But in Ghana? We have gaps everywhere. And in business, a gap is just another word for an opportunity.
Think about it. If you see a problem with waste management, transport, or food supply, you aren't just looking at a nuisance—you're looking at a potential multi-million cedi company. We often complain about the lack of structure, but Justice argues that this lack of structure is exactly what allows a hungry entrepreneur to build something from scratch quickly.
The "Soft" Environment Trap
One of my favorite parts of the conversation was about resilience. There’s a specific kind of "skin" you develop when you do business in Ghana. You learn how to negotiate, how to pivot when things go sideways, and how to stay sharp.
If you can survive and thrive in this environment, you’ve basically gone through a business bootcamp that the rest of the world can't provide. If you move from here to a place where systems actually work, you’ll be unstoppable. But if you can't figure out how to solve a problem right where you are, why do you think a change of scenery will suddenly make you an innovator?
Stop Waiting for the "Perfect" Time
Derrick and Justice didn't sugarcoat it—it's hard work. But the takeaway for me was clear: stop waiting for a visa to start your life. Stop waiting for the economy to magically fix itself before you launch that idea.
Are you seeing the problems around you as roadblocks or as your tickets to wealth? That’s the real question. If you’re an ambitious young Ghanaian, you need to watch this one. It’s the reality check we all need to wake up and start building.
Watch the full episode above and let me know in the comments—do you agree with Justice? Is Ghana the best place to start, or is it too risky?
